Everything that we teach on our face to face Beginner's Spinning Workshop is now available as an online course, for you to own forever.
As in our face to face workshops we try to breakdown the spinning process, making it easier for you to master the drafting and treadling. Everything we have learned over 14 years of teaching is included here.
What will I learn?
There are 6 modules for you to work through. You'll learn:
Different types of spinning wheels, how they work and why that is important
The qualities of different sheep's fibre
How fleece is processed, how to wash and card it
The difference between woollen and worsted spinning
How to draft your fibre
How to treadle, which direction it should go in and why
How to ply
How to use a niddy noddy
How to measure the gauge of your yarn and how to aim for a particular gauge
What do I need?
You will need a working spinning wheel. If you're not sure whether yours is working properly we can have a chat beforehand. You'll also need bobbins, an orifice hook, prepared top, a Lazykate and a ruler or yarn gauge. We have a selection of accessories that can be bought to accompany the course .
When can I start?
Once you purchase the course you will need to set up an account so that you can enter the course area and start watching. After you set up your account you log in, go to your dashboard and your courses and it will be listed there
I'm a complete beginner, I've never used a wheel before, is this course for me?
Absolutely! Complete beginners are the people we had in mind when we designed the course and who we teach every week.
I'm from outside the UK, will this make a difference?
Not at all, we welcome people from all over the world. The course is in English so you would need to speak English well but if you have a wheel and fibre, you're good to go
How long can I keep the course for?
The course is yours to keep. You will probably find that it's helpful to watch some parts over and over while you hone your technique. We do ask that you don't share this course or watch it in a public forum, we've worked hard to provide a quality online workshop and this is our main source of income so please help small businesses like us by not sharing content publicly.
If you have any questions before you decide to join us then ask away and we will do our best to help, we want you to love spinning yarn as much as we do and will do all we can to help you succeed. Email us at
