Description
Why do I need to know about worsted or woollen spinning?
Friday 9th February 2024
Learn everything you need to know about worsted, woollen and longdraw spinning
As a spinner, we want to make informed choices about the fibre we spin with and the method of spinning we use so that we can spin the best yarn we can. Knowledge is key and learning together is a great way to spark inspiration.
On this workshop we spin with different fibres, some rare breeds and many direct from small producers through mills such as Benridge Woolworks. You will have the opportunity to spin Ryeland, Herdwick, Portland fibre just to name a few. To learn more about Lucinda Bird and Benridge Woolworks take a look our interview with her here Meet the Producer.....or if you'd like to have a look at her site , click here
We start at 10am and spin until 4. Lunch is not included but there is a wonderful cafe that also has vegetarian and gluten-free options. You're also welcome to bring a packed lunch.

I had a great day with Cathy on this course. I now understand the various techniques, the difference each makes and the value of using one over another in respect of warmth, drape, definition and so on. I'm not proficient yet but that's just practice. I even got some help with my plying which can be a bit ropey. The best bit was being able to talk to another wooly being after being in purdah for so long. Highly recommended. Thanks Cathy
