Learn to Spin on an Ashford Traditional Spinning wheel with us on this face to face Beginner's Spinning Workshop. We use Texel fibre on our course which is a British fibre, processed in Yorkshire.
We are based in Melling in the north of Liverpool, just off junction 1 of the M58
Courses run from 10am until 4pm
Workshop Course Content
on the course, you will learn:
- how to prepare fleece
- how to card fibre
- how different breeds of sheep affect your spinning
After we chat about this, you will then spend the day spinning your own skein of handspun yarn and be able to take it home with you!
Materials and Spinning Wheels will be provided.

Even though I was very slow at everything with my lefthand not having any fine moor skills after my stroke. Cathy was very patient with me and went over my drafting technique a few times. I ran out of time to play, so Cathy did it for me. I am happy to have done the course as I was booked on originally in March 2020 and that was cancelled obviously due to the pandemic. Very enjoyable day. I had lunch in the Ryder cafe with Cathy and another attendee.

What a lovely workshop this was!! Cathy was a very informative and patient tutor. A small class so everyone got attention and help when needed. We learned how to spin and how to ply the yarn and wind it onto a niddy noddy to make a skein. We learned a lot. It was a lovely relaxed day with everyone concentrating on their spinning and to come out with a skein of wool at the end of the day was brilliant. I can't wait for a dyeing class now. In the meantime I'm going to keep up with all I've learned on this fantastic beginners class. I would recommend this class to anyone who would like to learn how to spin.

The class was informal and very friendly and I soon found myself laughing and chatting with the other ladies, and left the class with a skien of wool hand spun by my own hands!
